Deschutes River: Fair The reservation side of the river is closed til April 26th. Flows are 4,050 cfs at Madras and 5,206 cfs at Moody. Maupin Area: BWO's, Caddis, a few March Browns, Midges. Use a stonefly nymph followed by a smaller nymph during the day. Best trout fishing will be in the eddies and slower water close to the bank. Evening Midge hatches should provide good

Suggested Trout patterns: : #4-6 Dark Stone Nymphs, #10-12 March Brown Comparadun, #18-20 BWO Comparadun, #16-18 Baetis Twilight Parachute, BWO Flutterwing Cripple #18-20, BWO Poxy-back Emerger #16-18, BH Pheasant Tails sz.16, BH Prince Nymph #16, #18 Gold ribbed Hare's Ear, Zebra Midge #16-20, Black Beauty Midge #18-22, Serendipity #16-20, Sprout Midge, Griffiths Gnat #16-22.

McKenzie River: Fishing has picked up due to warmer weather and better flows. River at 4,554 cfs (2.57 ft.) @ Vida. Level at Walterville 2,760 cfs. 2.9ft. River has pretty decent water clarity. Look for Caddis, BWO & March Brown action. Call Ed or Virginia of McKenzie River Shuttle Service at 541-896-0526 if you needed your vehicle shuttled.

Suggested Trout patterns: #10-14 March Brown Comparadun, BWO Parachute #16-22, #14-16 Adams, #14-18 BWO Comparadun, BH Pheasant Tails #16-22, BH Prince Nymph #16-22, Griffiths Gnat #16-22, Black Elk Hair Caddis #16-20.

North Santiam: 4.24 ft. river level. Best river levels for fly fishing are from 2.8' to 4.5'. Good numbers of natives available in the lower river. Best be right now would be Greens Bridge to Jefferson. Steelhead were seen jumping and boiling in this stretch over the weekend.

Suggested Steelhead Patterns: #2-4 Polar Shrimp, #4 Pink/White Starlight Leech, #4 Orange/White Starlight Leech, #1.5-3 Orange Heron, #1.5-3 Sol Duc Spey, Pink Articulated Leech #4, #2-4 Skykomish Sunrise, sz. 1/0 Pink/Orange Skagit Minnow's, #1/0-2 General Practitioner.. Steelhead counts over Willamette Falls : 04-13-03 - 8,462 winter steelhead and 1,442 summer steelhead and 1,292 Spring Chinook..

Nestucca River: River level is 5.05 ft. Fishing has been fair-good the last couple of days. River finally has come down to a decent level to toss flies. There are good numbers of fish in the system. River is now closed to fishing above Moon Creek.
Suggested Steelhead Flies: #1/0 Skagit Minnow, #2-4 Polar Shrimp, #2-4 Home Run, #4 Pink/White Starlight Leech, #4 Orange/White Starlight Leech, # 3 Orange Heron, # 3 Sol Duc Spey, #4 Pink Articulated Leech, #2-4 Skykomish Sunrise, # 2 General Practitioner, #4-6 Cabellero Egg, #4-6 assorted Glo-Bugs. Crooked River: Fair - Good 135 cfs (below Prineville). Fishing has been good on the surface with Black midges and Baetis when the May flies are out. Bead head orange scuds, Prince nymphs, serindipities, pheasant tails, hare's ear and Peacock Carey buggers are all working below the surface.
Suggested Trout Flies: Orange Scuds # 16-18, Griffiths Gnats #16-20, #18-20 BWO Comparadun, #16-18 Baetis Twilight Parachute, BWO Flutterwing Cripple #18-20, BWO Poxy-back Emerger #16-18, BH Pheasant Tails sz.16, BH Prince Nymph #16, #16-18 Gold ribbed Hare's Ear, #14-18 Zug Bug, Zebra Midge #16-20, # 8-10 Peacock Carey Buggers, Black Beauty Midge #18-22, Brassies and Serendipities.

Metolius River: Fair. Best be is from the hatchery downstream to bridge 99. Some big Bull Trout have been caught. Good hatches of BWO's and Midges should bring us some surface action on warmer days. When no hatches are present, nymphing with a 2 fly set-up can be very productive. Other hatches to watch for are a cream mayfly and large Orange Caddis (carry some #8 orange dries just in case). Fishing has been slow-fair for Bull trout.
Suggested Trout Patterns: All stages of Blue-Winged Olive's # 16-18, #16 cream Sparkle Dun, Griffith's Gnat #16-22, BH Hare's Ear Nymph #16-18, Red Serendipities #16-18, BH Prince nymphs #14-18, #12-14 Bird of Prey, #14-18 Caddis Pupa, #16 Copper John (red or copper). #6-8 Golden Stone Nymphs. Fish for Bull Trout with heavily weighted white bunny flies up to six inches long.

Fall River: Fair BWO's and midge hatches mid-afternoon most days but fishing is best when it's overcast or cloudy. Trout are scattered through out the river but remember the river is still closed below the falls.
Suggested Trout Patterns: # 16-18 Parachute Baetis, #16-18 Sparkle Dun, BWO Cripple #18-20, #18 Palomino Midge, #16-22 Griffith's Gnat, Zebra Midges #18-22

Suttle Lake: Anglers are catching some big Browns as of late up to a recent 5lb. fish caught by one of our customers. Fish have been concentrated along the shorelines.
Suggested Patterns: #4 Peacock Carey Bugger, #4-6 Muddler Minnows, #4-6 Black Nosed Dace.

Davis Lake: Slow fishing. Water level is better than last year at this time.

Mann Lake: Slow-Fair Fishing. Has been very windy on the lake. Water level is a little better than last year at this time. Not much snow in the mountains though. Best bet will be to fish the lake early this season.
Suggested Patterns: Peacock Carey Buggers sz. 6-10, Pheasant tail nymphs sz. 12-18, Wolly Buggers in black, olive, and brown, and Chironomids.

Red Hills Lake: (Pay Lake) Fishing has been very good!!! This lake fishes good in the spring and late winter. Slows down in the summer time because of water temp.
